Volumes screen details

If no resources are listed, you must add or create a resource. See Create a volume or Add an external volume.

General

Screen component Description
State

State of the volume.

Description

User-defined description for the volume.

Provisioning

Provisioning setting of the volume: Thin or Full.

Provisioned capacity

Provisioned capacity of the volume, in gibibytes (GiB).

NOTE: GiB is an industry-standard storage term. It is a base 2 notation instead of a base 10 notation.


Allocated capacity

Total capacity allocated to the volume.

Storage system

Storage system that hosts the storage pool to which the volume belongs.

Storage pool

Storage pool to which the volume belongs.

Snapshot storage pool

Storage pool from which to provision space for storing snapshots of the storage volume.

Sharing

Sharing setting for the volume:

Private

The volume can be used by only one server profile. Can be used to boot from SAN.

Shared

The volume can be used by more than one server profile.

WWN

World Wide Name (WWN) of the volume.

RAID

RAID level of the volume: RAID0, RAID1, RAID5, or RAID6.

Storage system volume name

Name of the volume on the storage system, which may be different from the volume name on the appliance.

Used by

Number of server profiles using the volume. The number is a hyperlink to the Server Profiles screen, filtered to show the server profiles using the volume.

Lifecycle

Whether the volume lifecycle is tied to a server profile (Ephemeral) or not (Permanent).

Snapshots

Screen component Description
Status icon

Status of the snapshot. See Icon descriptions for information about status icons.

Name

The name of the snapshot.

Revert

Opens the Revert dialog, which enables you to revert to the snapshot of the volume. See About snapshots for more information.

Create volume

Opens the Create Volume From Snapshot dialog , which enables you to create a volume from the snapshot. See About snapshots for more information.

This will create a full copy based on the data in the snapshot. For large volumes, this can take a long time depending on storage system resources available for the copy action.

X

The X icon enables you to delete the snapshot.

Deleting the snapshot will result in loss of all data on the snapshot.

Snapshot details
Date

The date and time the snapshot was created.

Description

User-defined description of the snapshot.

Name on storage system

The name of the snapshot on the storage system.

Volume Attachments

Volume attachments define data paths between volumes and server profiles. The Volume Attachments view enables you to view the volume attachment. To edit volume attachments, you must access them from the Server Profiles screen.

Screen component Description
Attachment Status icon

The status of the volume attachment. See Icon descriptions for more information.

Server Profile

The server profile to which the volume attachment is connected. The profile name links to the profile details on the Server Profiles screen.

LUN

The LUN of the volume attachment. If the LUN is not yet provisioned, such as when the profile is unassigned, the LUN is set to Auto.

Connection

The profile connection name or the connection ID of the volume attachment.

Network

The network that is associated with the SAN in the volume attachment. The network name links to the network details on the Networks screen.

SAN

The SAN to which the volume is connected. The SAN name links to the SAN details on the SANs screen.

Storage System Ports

The names of the storage system, port groups, and port names defined in the volume attachment. The storage system name links to the storage system details on the Storage Systems screen.

Enabled

The enabled state of the volume attachment; can be Yes or No.

Create or edit volume

Screen component Description
Name

A name for the volume.

Data type:

A maximum of 100 alphanumeric characters, including spaces and special characters.

Description

A description of the volume (optional).

Volume template

(create only)

The template you want to use to create the volume or None if you do not want to use a template.

Storage pool

The storage pool in which to create the volume.

Snapshot storage pool

The storage pool from which to provision storage space for snapshots of the storage volume.

Capacity

The capacity for the volume: a value between 1 GiB and 16384 (16 tebibytes (TiB)). When editing the capacity of a volume, you can only increase the capacity.

Provisioning

Provisioning type for the volume: Thin or Full.

Thin

Starts with a small set of block storage that expands to fill the volume as the space is consumed.

Full

The volume consumes the full capacity when you create it.

Sharing

Sharing setting for the volume:

Private

The volume can be used by only one server profile. Can be used to boot from SAN.

Shared

The volume can be used by more than one server profile.

Add volume

Use this screen to add volumes that exist on managed storage systems to the appliance, for example when migrating from an earlier version of the appliance.

Remove extra presentations dialog

This alert action is presented when HPE OneView detects volume access on a storage system was not granted by HPE OneView (extra presentation). Use the Remove extra presentations action to remove the extra presentation from the storage system. After you have removed extra presentations, managed volumes will only be accessable by servers whose server profiles contain attachments to the volume.


[NOTE: ]

NOTE:

  • Do not use the Remove extra presentations operation if you have volumes under management of HPE OneView that are being accessed by servers that are not under management of HPE OneView, as this operation will remove their access to the storage system.

  • The Remove extra presentations operation does not affect zoning or aliases.




Screen component Description
Endpoint WWPN

The WWPN of the endpoint that is configured with access to the volume on the storage system, but not defined in any server profile volume attachment.

Endpoint

The HPE OneView name of the endpoint, if available.

Endpoint Alias

The endpoint SAN alias, if any exist on a managed SAN.

Zone

The SAN zones that contain the endpoint, if any exist on a managed SAN.

Online

Whether or not the endpoint is currently logged into the managed SAN; can be Yes or No.

Remove access to volumes not managed by HPE OneView dialog

This alert action is presented either a server profile or a managed volume.

Server profile alert

The host entry on the storage system has extra initiators configured that HPE OneView has no record of.

The Remove access to volumes not managed by HPE OneView operation removes the extra host entries.

Volume alert

A volume under management of HPE OneView has VLUNs that exist on the 3PAR storage system that do not exist in HPE OneView. Extra initiators (separate host entries on the storage array) or targets are present.. The HPE OneView fix operation removes the extra entries from the volume access.

The Remove access to volumes not managed by HPE OneView operation removes the extra entries from the volume access.

NOTE: The default scanning interval for these alerts is 4 hours.

Volume

The name of the volume for which extra presentations will be removed.

Storage System

The storage system to which the volume belongs.
