The following tables describe the information required to configure an appliance network for the first time and at any time you might need to change the settings.

General

Screen component Description
Appliance host name

The host name of the appliance.

[NOTE: ]

NOTE: If you specify DNS (Domain Name Service), you must specify the fully qualified host name.

Data type:

Upper and lower case alphanumeric characters, special characters period (.) and hyphen (-).

Examples:

my-host-name.example.com (when DNS is used).

my-host-name (when DNS is not used).

IPv4 settings

Screen component Description
Address assignment

Defines how IP addresses are assigned to the appliance in either of these methods:

  • manually by using a static IP address.

  • automatically by using DHCP addresses assigned by a DHCP server.

Default value:

Manual

[CAUTION: ]

CAUTION: DHCP randomly assigns addresses. If the DHCP server changes the address assigned to the appliance, connectivity issues, including failures, might result.

IP address

For manual address assignment, supply the IP address of the appliance. For DHCP address assignment, DHCP provides the IP address.

Example:

192.0.2.0

Subnet mask or CIDR

The IPv4 mask represents the bits reserved for network identification. The Classless Internet Domain Routing (CIDR) mask represents the number of bits reserved for network identification.

Data type:

Decimal numbers 1 to 128 inclusive with special characters period (.) and colon (:).

Required:

Yes, if specifying a gateway manually.

Example:

  • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.000

  • CIDR 24

Gateway address

The IP address for the network interface on your router.

Required:

Yes, for manual address assignment.

DNS settings

Screen component Description
DNS

The IP addresses of your Preferred and Alternate DNS servers.

[NOTE: ]

NOTE: If you use DNS, you must specify the appliance host name by its fully qualified domain name.

IPv6 settings

Screen component Description
Address assignment

Defines how IP addresses are assigned to the appliance.

Unassign

IP address is unassigned.

Clicking this button collapses the IPv6 boxes.

Manual

Expands the IPv6 boxes and allows you to enter the static IP address, Subnet mask or CIDR, and gateway address settings.

DHCPv6

Expands the IPv6 boxes to display the IP address, Subnet mask or CIDR, and gateway address settings assigned by a DHCP server.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends using a static IP address for best results.

Default value:

Unassign

IP address

The IPv6 address of the appliance.

Example:

2001:DB8::

Subnet mask or CIDR

The subnet mask represents the bits reserved for network identification. The Classless Internet Domain Routing (CIDR) mask represents the number of bits reserved for network identification.

Data type:

Decimal numbers 1 to 128 inclusive with special characters period (.) and colon (:)

Required:

Yes, if specifying a gateway

Examples:

  • Subnet mask: 2001:DB8::

  • CIDR value: 32

Gateway address
