SANs screen details

General

Screen component Description
State

The state of the SAN.

Discovered

A SAN that is not associated with a network. SANs are automatically discovered when a SAN manager is brought under management of HPE OneView.

Managed

A SAN that is associated with a network. HPE OneView has full inventory of the SAN and can perform operations on it.

Type

The type of SAN; can be FC, FCoE, or FC + FCoE (hybrid SAN).

[NOTE: ]

NOTE: HPE OneView automatically determines the type of SAN based on the presence of a VLAN ID or port types configured on the SAN manager. When another switch is connected by inter-switch links, you might need to manually select the SAN type on that switch in order to make the correct network association.

For example, if HPE OneView detects the SAN as an FC SAN, but the cascaded switch has FCoE ports on the particular VSAN, you will need to edit this setting manually to select an FC + FCoE (hybrid) SAN. This will enable the SAN to be displayed as an option for both FC and FCoE networks when associating the SAN to a network in HPE OneView.

VLAN ID

(FCoE and FC + FCoE)

The VLAN ID of the SAN.

Principal switch

The switch that controls the fabric services and assigns domain IDs to member switches.

Only available for managed SANs.

SAN manager

The SAN manager that HPE OneView uses to perform zoning and alias operations on the SAN. The SAN manager name is a link to the details for that SAN manager.

Associated networks

The networks associated with the SAN. Each network name is a link to the details of that network.

Zoning Policy

Screen component Description
Zoned

Indicates whether or not the SAN is zoned; can be No zoning (open zoned) or Zoned.

HPE OneView determines whether or not the SAN is zoned based on the following conditions:

No zoning (open zoned)

The default zone is set to allow all and there are no active zone sets. HPE OneView will not perform automated zoning on open zoned SANs. Open zoned SANs are treated as Read Only.

Zoned

The default zone is set to deny all or there is an active zone set. HPE OneView can perform automated zoning on zoned SANs.

Automate Zoning

Indicates whether or not HPE OneView will automatically create zones as part of adding SAN storage to server profiles. The membership and naming of the zones is based on the zoning policy specified in HPE OneView. See About SAN zoning for more information.

Automated zoning automatically creates, edits, and deletes zones on the SAN when storage volumes are attached to or detached from server profiles.

Yes

Automated zoning is turned on for the SAN, and HPE OneView controls the zoning operations between the server profiles and the storage system. Automated zoning is only available for SANs associated with a network.

No

Automated zoning is turned off for the SAN. Zoning must be configured manually in order for the SAN to be visible to server profiles.

Zone layout

Indicates the structure of the zones HPE OneView creates on the SAN.

single initiator / all targets

A single zone is created for each server profile initiator and all storage system targets serving volumes to the initiator.

single initiator / single storage system

A separate zone is created for each storage system serving volumes to the server profile initiator.

single initiator / single target

A separate zone is created for each storage system target port serving volumes to the server profile initiator.

Zone name format

Displays the user-defined format HPE OneView uses to create zone names.

Zone names update when resources are renamed

Whether or not (Yes or No) zone names are renamed on the SAN when the names of resources that are part of the name format change in HPE OneView.

Default: Yes

Create Aliases

Indicates whether or not aliases are generated during zoning operations.

An alias defines a group of endpoints.

Yes

Aliases are generated for all initiators and targets used in zoning operations.

No

Aliases are not generated.

Manage pre-existing aliases

Whether or not (Yes or No) aliases that are not part of the zones that HPE OneView creates are used, renamed, or deleted during zoning operations.

Initiator alias format

Displays the user-defined format HPE OneView uses to create server profile initiator aliases.

Initiator aliases update when resources are renamed

Whether or not (Yes or No) initiator aliases are renamed on the SAN when the names of resources that are part of the name format change in HPE OneView.

Default: Yes

Target alias format

Displays the user-defined format HPE OneView uses to create storage system target aliases.

Target aliases and target group aliases update when resources are renamed

Whether or not (Yes or No) target aliases and target group aliases are renamed on the SAN when the names of resources that are part of the name format change in HPE OneView.

Default: No

Create target group aliases

Whether or not (Yes or No) target group aliases are generated.

Default: No

Target group alias format

Displays the user-defined format HPE OneView uses to create storage system target port group aliases.

SAN Endpoints

The SAN Endpoints table displays all device ports actively logged into or configured to log in to a SAN.

  • You can filter the SAN endpoints table on any of the columns using the search boxes.

  • The default view is sorted on the Endpoint column with the first 100 endpoints displayed.

Screen component Description
Download endpoints table button

Downloads a gzipped CSV formatted table of the currently displayed SAN endpoints.

Endpoint

The name of the endpoint. The endpoint name format depends on the type of endpoint:

Target

The name of a storage system port. The target name format is <storage_system_name><port><port_group>

Initiator

The server HBA port. The initiator name format is <profile_name><profile_connection_name>. If the profile connection name is not available, the profile connection ID is used.

Unmanaged endpoints do not have an endpoint name. Endpoints without a name are identified by the endpoint WWPN.

Endpoint WWPN

The WWPN of the target or initiator.

Endpoint Alias

The alias of the endpoint, if available.

Online

Indicates whether or not the device port is currently logged into the SAN fabric services; can be Yes or No.

Zone

The zone to which the endpoint belongs, if available.

Update button

Updates the list of SAN endpoints based on your entries in the search boxes.

Edit SAN dialog box screen details

Screen component Description
General
SAN Type

The type of SAN; can be FC, FCoE, or FC + FCoE (hybrid SAN).

The device access protocols on the SAN. HPE OneView reports all the protocols it detects, but if other protocols exist on other switches in the SAN, you will need to declare those types manually. The protocols are used to filter SANs when performing network-to-SAN associations.

VLAN ID

The VLAN ID assigned to the SAN.

Auto Zoning Policy
Automate zoning

Indicates whether or not HPE OneView will automatically create zones as part of adding SAN storage to server profiles. The membership and naming of the zones is based on the zoning policy specified in HPE OneView.

Zone naming example

You have a server profile named myServer with a connection named portA

You specify the zoning format as OV-{server profile}-{server profile connection}

The zone name would be OV-myServer-portA

[NOTE: ]

NOTE: To adhere to the naming rules of a SAN manager, HPE OneView automatically removes illegal characters, appends zone names and aliases that are non-unique, and pre-appends zone names and aliases that begin with an illegal starting character.

Update zone names as referenced resources are renamed
