Boot from an attached SAN volume

You can select an attached SAN volume as a boot disk when you create or edit a server profile and have the appliance configure boot targets automatically.

NOTE: Boot from SAN is not supported from server profile configuration for SANs managed by Cisco Nexus 5K/6K switches with Cisco FEX interconnects.


Prerequisites

  • Required privileges: Infrastructure administrator or Server administrator

  • Existing SAN volume

Booting from an attached SAN volume

  1. From the main menu, select Server Profiles.

  2. View the details of an assigned profile to collect the target WWPN and LUN values of the desired boot volume already attached to the profile.

  3. Edit the profile to configure the boot connection:

    1. In the Connections panel, edit the connection used by the desired boot volume by clicking Edit.

    2. For the Boot setting, select Primary or Secondary.

      NOTE: Specify a primary boot volume before you specify a secondary boot volume.


    3. Select one of the following:

      • Select Specify boot target to record the information in the server profile.

        Enter the WWPN and LUN values of the desired boot volume collected in step 2.

      • Select Use Adapter BIOS to manually configure the adapter BIOS.

        The server hardware will attempt a SAN boot with the values manually configured in the adapter.

    4. Click OK to save the connection settings.

    5. Click OK to save the server profile.

  4. Verify that your changes appear in the details pane.
