Edit a data center

Keeping your data centers updated ensures that they accurately represent your IT equipment. Use the General panel of the Edit screen to change data center properties such as dimensions, electrical characteristics, and power costs. The appliance uses these properties to summarize and analyze your data centers.

Use the Layout panel of the Edit screen to add, reposition, and remove racks.

NOTE: Racks that are not yet positioned in any data center, are shown at the end of the last row of each existing data center (including Datacenter 1, the default data center). A warning message is displayed to notify you that there are racks that need to be positioned in the appropriate data center.


Prerequisites 

  • Required privileges: Infrastructure administrator or Server administrator

Changing data center properties

  1. From the main menu, select Data Centers, and do one of the following:

    • In the master pane, select the data center you want to edit and select ActionsEdit.

    • Hover your pointer in the details pane and click the Edit icon.

  2. Edit the values shown on the screen. See Add or edit a data center if you need assistance with your entries.

  3. Review your changes, and click OK to apply them.

  4. Verify that your changes have been made in the details pane.

Changing the layout of a data center

  1. From the main menu, select Data Centers, and do one of the following:

    • In the master pane, select the data center you want to edit and select ActionsEdit.

    • Hover your pointer in the details pane and click the Edit icon.

  2. Select ActionsEdit.

    To add a rack to a data center:

    Drag a rack from the Unpositioned Racks list in the Layout section onto the grid, or select a rack and click Add. Racks not yet assigned to a data center appear in the list.

    To change the position of a rack in a data center:

    On the grid in the Layout section, do one of the following:

    • Click and drag the rack to the new position.

    • Select the rack to open the dialog box. Enter the new X and Y coordinates, and choose the rotation angle.

      To close the dialog box and save your changes, click the X or click outside the dialog box.

    To remove a rack from a data center:

    On the grid in the Layout section, do one of the following:

    • Select and drag the rack from the grid to the Unpositioned Racks list.

    • Select the rack to open the dialog box and click Remove to remove the rack from the data center.

    NOTE: When you create a rack, the appliance adds it to all existing data centers until you position it in a specific data center.


  3. Click OK.

  4. Verify that your changes have been made in the details pane.
